Follow the story through movement
Before the show, you could ask a child to watch how the puppets move and how the music changes with them. They need not understand every word to notice a character's entrance or a shift in the scene. Afterwards, try asking which movement they remember rather than testing the plot. For an older child, wondering how the performance is made can be as interesting as recounting what happened on stage.
A performance and a lakeside stroll
