IDECAF's media library offers a French-language thread for a family outing: books, illustrations and the wider culture around them. It can suit children learning French as well as adults who want to share a language through something more enjoyable than an exercise.
French books through familiar interests
Try searching the online catalogue for a subject the child already likes. A favourite animal, a comic or a familiar story can be a gentler starting point than choosing by difficulty alone. With a picture book, you could talk about colours and characters before reading the words. Let the child point, guess or retell a scene in the language they use comfortably; the book can start a conversation rather than test vocabulary.
From catalogue to reading
Note one or two titles before visiting and ask the library about availability. After arranging access, begin with a small amount of shared reading, then let the child choose whether to look further. You could finish by deciding on a subject for another visit. Cultural programmes offer another way into Francophone stories, but a specific workshop needs its own announcement; an ordinary reading visit can be worthwhile without adding an event.
