Hoi An’s Binh Ngo Mid-Autumn programme is scheduled for 23–26 September, bringing together Thien Cau dance, lion dance, lantern processions and community celebrations.
Its appeal lies in seeing different neighbourhoods take part, rather than treating the entire festival as a single show at one stage.

Notice the different dance traditions
The Thien Cau dance competition is a distinctive element alongside lion dance and other arts activities. Children can watch how the creature’s head moves, how performers work together and how the drum rhythm changes. They do not need to identify every form immediately; remembering one movement gives the family something to discuss afterwards. For children sensitive to loud sound, begin at a distance before deciding whether a closer view would be enjoyable.
Choose one part of the celebration
Lantern processions, festive food displays and community gatherings offer a different experience from standing at a stage. Choose one as the centre of your evening, leave time to notice lantern shapes or the arrangement of a display, then add a short nearby walk. Families with young children need not follow a procession from beginning to end. A brief section with a clear way back can preserve the atmosphere without turning the evening into a long endurance test.
Festival dates are not a nightly timetable
The 23–26 September window covers Hoi An, Hoi An Dong and Hoi An Tay wards, with individual activities taking place at their own locations and times. Ask for the detailed programme before arranging transport or choosing a dinner location. Do not assume every activity runs every night or along the same street. Leave time for crowds, agree on a meeting point and give performers and processions enough room to move safely through the area.

Choose one main moment and one rest point; do not make children complete the whole programme.
